Angela Evelyn Bassett, an American actor, is well-known for her roles in film and on television since the mid 1980s. Bassett has been awarded a variety of accolades including two Golden Globe Awards, and sixteen NAACP Image Awards. in the television and film industry, she is known for her many nominations and awards. Bassett comes originally from New York New York. She was raised at Winston-Salem North Carolina. Bassett along with her sister, and their mother were moved from the city of Winston-Salem to St. Petersburg Florida when Bassett was five. The father of the family had split from the mother of their children. Bassett chose to become an actor after watching the play Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, starring James Earl Jones. Following her graduation from Yale University New Haven Connecticut in the year 1980, she earned an undergraduate degree of African American Studies, she went on to earn an MA (1983) at the Yale School of Drama. While at Yale she met Courtney B. Vance a fellow actor and the two married in 1997. Qualification: B.A. Master of Arts (Afro-American studies) in 1980.
